COOL B’s
Cool Bs is a character-led series of charcoal drawings exploring personality and presence through reduced composition.
Each work isolates the subject against a quiet field, removing environmental context so gesture, posture, and expression carry meaning. The reduction is deliberate. What remains is focus.
While the series introduces lightness and humour, the drawings maintain precision and control. Texture, tonal balance, and illusion are treated with the same discipline as larger works, ensuring the series sits comfortably within a serious drawing practice.
The characters are distinct, yet restrained. Expression is suggested rather than exaggerated. The work relies on subtle shifts in form and tone rather than overt narrative or symbolism.
Charcoal is used for its immediacy and capacity for refinement. The surface remains active, preserving evidence of process while holding the image in balance.
Cool Bs sits alongside other bodies of work by Rob Harris, including Wild Hearts and Baby Paws. Each series differs in tone and scale, but all are developed within a consistent visual language grounded in restraint, clarity, and control.
